MATCH REPORTS
Aisling Annacotty B 2 : Corbally United 1
1st September 2010
Corbally provided excellent opposition for the first match of the season and as with other encounters against this team, a one goal difference was the outcome, with our lads proving the winners on this occasion. What was particularly pleasing was the effort by both teams to engage in a passing game. In the early encounters Aisling pressed forward with excellent contributions by our midfield trio of Philip Harty, Oisin Cross and Garret Power. Up front, Adam Foley, Sam Lane and Jordan Marshall created a number of good chances and we were only denied scoring by an in form Corbally Keeper. Late in the first half Philip Harty put us ahead with a close range effort. As the second half began Corbally piled on the pressure and the Aisling defence of James Deegan (Captain), William Brennan, Eoin looney and Ian Mc Carthy responded superbly. Nonetheless, Corbally refused to lie down and eventually secured an equaliser in the early stages of the second half. By that time an injured Jordan Marshall had been replaced by Sean Devitt and Aisling to their credit quickly responded to the equaliser with some intricate play in midfield by Oisin Cross. The match was won with an excellent goal by Sam Lane with about ten minutes to go and some tired legs were helped by the introduction of Mohammad Hassan and the first appearance of the season by Christopher Coffey. During the game our keeper Cian Cahill played with great composure and handled anything that came his way very competently. All in all an excellent game and a great start to the season. It has to be said that the very sensible refereeing added to the spectacle.
