Aisling Annacotty 0 - St Kevins Boys 1
AISLING ANNACOTTY BOW OUT IN LAST EIGHT MATCH
Aisling Annacotty bowed out of the Under 12 National Cup last Saturday afternoon to a well drilled and skilful Dublin outfit in St Kevins Boys. Played in beautiful sunshine on a great surface played in front of a very large crowd both teams served up a passionate and entertaining match. The first half was a very tight affair with both defences coming out on top, St Kevins Boys who play a lovely style of football passing the ball from defence to midfield and onto there forward line could not get going in the first half as the homeside never gave them time and space on the ball. The main chances in the first half came from set pieces with both sides coming close to scoring. St Kevins had a freekick well saved by the Aisling goalkeeper Niall Sheehan and Aisling came even closer when a great freekick by Conor Fleming came off the crossbar. Aisling did most of the pressing at the end of the first half with a serious of corners from Niall O Shea and free kicks but just could not find the final touch from the home team. The teams changed over on a scoreline of 0 - 0.
From the start of the second half St Kevins Boys upped the tempo of there play and started to win the midfield battles. They had most of the possession and created a few chances both the well organised defence of the home team brilliantly anchored by Jack Barry and Niall O Shea kept them at bay. It was going to take something special to break the deadlock and that came when St Kevins were awarded a free kick 10 yards outside the box. They curled the freekick around the Aisling wall and even though Niall Sheehan was well positioned, he couldnt keep the well placed ball out of the net, to give the away team the lead and to send there supporters into celebrations. Aisling never gave up in getting an equaliser and made a few substitutions to try and freshen things up but found it hard to break down the St Kevins Boys defence. CORBALLY UNITED 0 AISLING ANNACOTTY 2
Played last Friday night in Athlunkard, both these teams served up an entertaining game. Aisling with the aid of the breeze in the first half took the game to Corbally from the start and had a lot of posession but a well organised Corbally defence held them out until a free kick was awarded to the away team half way through the first half. Niall O Shea then unleashed an unstoppable free kick from 30 yards out which flew into the top corner of the net giving the Corbally goalkeeper no chance. Aisling added to there lead when Cian Hession was put through on the left side of midfield and sent over an excellent cross which fell to Niall Loughran who calmly side footed it to the back of the net, to make the score 2 - 0 to the Aisling boys. The half ended on the same scoreline.
The second half Corbally saw more of the ball and the game became more of a midfield battle in the early stages of the half. Both teams had chances to add to the scoreline with Aisling pressing from the left side and one of these balls in by Cian Hession was met by Evan O Connor at the near post but his effort was unlucky to just go buy the near post. Aisling had a number of corners to reward there possession but good deliveries by Peader Collins and Niall O Shea were cleared by a strong Corbally defence, who played well throughout. MUNGRET REGIONAL 0 AISLING ANNACOTTY AFC 0
SATURDAY 20TH MARCH 2010
Played last Saturday afternoon in beautiful sunshine in Mungret, this top of the table clash proved to be a tense and tight affair. Aisling Annacotty did most of the pressing in the first half but were met by a determined and well drilled defence by Mungret Regional. When they did get through and created chances the Mungret Regional goalkeeper Clyde O Connell kept them at bay and pulled off some fantastic saves all during the first half. Aisling Annacotty were a bit flat in the match after there heroics last week in there National Cup match v Mount Merrion.
The second half followed the same pattern with Aisling Annacotty having most of the possession but finding it hard to breakdown a determined Mungret Regional defence. Both teams created chances in the second half with both goalkeepers making well timed saves to keep the match level. So the match ended in a no score draw and both teams will have to meet in Annacotty for the return match which could decide where the Under 12 Premier League title will rest for this season.
AISLING ANNACOTTY AFC 2 MOUNT MERRION 0
National Cup - Last 16 - 13th March 2010
Aisling Annacotty reached the quarter final of the Under 12 National Cup last Saturday afternoon with an entertaining and hard fought win over Dublin District League team Mount Merrion. Aisling Annacotty lost to the same opponents at the same stage last year in Dublin and were determined to reverse this loss this year. Played in front of a large and vocal home support in Annacotty the home team brought the match to there fancied Dublin opponents from the start. Aisling never let Mount Merrion settle on the ball and the away side could not get there passing game going with the tough tackling and relentless efoort displayed by the home team. Aisling Annacotty took the lead when a beautifully floated free kick from Niall O Shea was met by the impressive Oisin Kelly who rose above the Mount Merrion defenders and headed the ball passed the Mount Merrion keeper. Aisling added to there scoreline five minutes after when a fabulous corner by Conor Fleming was met by Team Captain Peader Collins who thundered a header passed the helpless Mount Merrion keeper to make it 2 - 0. Aisling Annacotty kept up the pressure on the away team and although Mount Merrion created a few chances the home keeper Niall Sheehan was well placed to deal with any balls that came at him. Aisling turned at half time 2 - 0 up.
The second half was a midfield battle with Mount Merrion doing most of the pressing and some great tackling and defending by all the Aisling team. All though they had most of the possession in the second half Mount Merrion could not break down the well organised home team who still posed a treat going forward with the ever energetic Oisin Kelly and Evan O Connor going through a great workload between them. The backline for Aisling Annacotty Sean McBrearty,Mark Carmody, Naill O Shea and sweeper Jack Barry really performed well in the second half and never gave there opponents anytime on the ball and cleared everything that was thrown at them. Helped on by the large crowd in attendance Aisling Annacotty held out for a great and well deserved victory on a scoreline of 2 - 0. In the quarter finals they will meet Dublin favourites for the National Cup St.Kevins Boys at home in Annacotty and if the Aisling Annacotty team show the same determination and effort in the this match it should be another great game.
