U13 Premier League: Ballynanty Rovers 3 Aisling Annacotty 2
5th May, 2010
Ballynanty Rovers won the u13 premier league title after a thrilling victory over Aisling Annacotty at Shelbourne Park last Wednesday. Aisling came in to this fixture one point ahead of their great rivals and knowing that a draw would be enough to wrap up the title. Ballynanty, on the other hand, had to win and, as might have been expected, started the game in really positive fashion. They owned the ball for the first 5 minutes, playing some lovely football and threatened to overwhelm the visitors. However, this Aisling side is very determined and they slowly grabbed control of the game with the midfield four of Cian O'Brien, Jack Cleary, Paddy Morrissey & Brian Donovan coming into their own. Aisling took the lead when a long ball from the superb Stuart Hoare was brilliantly controlled and driven to the bottom corner by Ronan Murphy. Ballynanty responded immediately and Keith O'Connell scored a fine goal after a great through-ball from Jamie Brommell. It was game on and Aisling really upped the tempo for the next 10 minutes and Ronan Murphy scored his second after a wonderful flowing move involving Jack Cleary, Brian Donovan & Conor Linehan. It was 2-1 to the visitors at half time and Aisling were in a very strong position but they knew that Ballynanty would throw everything at them in the second period and so it proved. Crucially, Ballynanty got an early goal after the restart when a cross from Neil Wallace was drive in at point blank range by Ryan Earls. This gave the home side a terrific lift and they dominated the game, exerting huge pressure on the Aisling rearguard where John Nicholas, Shane Doyle, Kieran Long & Stuart Hoare were absolutely outstanding. When they were beaten, Edward Doyle came to the rescue with a magnificient save from Neil Wallace. With just three minutes to go Ballynanty broke Aisling hearts when Ryan Earls headed in off a post after yet another telling contribution from Neil Wallace. Aisling now threw everything forward, forcing a series of corners & free-kicks but the clock beat them & Ballynanty Rovers had done enough to be crowned champions. Congratulations to them from everybody at Aisling Annacotty.

U13 Troy Cup Quarter-final: Killarney Celtic 2 Aisling Annacotty 1
17th April 2010
Aisling Annacotty bowed out of this seasons national cup after an enthralling game in Killarney last saturday. The visitors started the match in very impressive style, passing the ball beautifully and created a gilt-edged chance in the first few minutes but Ronan Murphy just failed to get a clean strike on the ball & the danger passed. Killarney Celtic came strongly into the game with the outstanding Zaouil Hique a constant threat and the Aisling back four of Stuart Hoare, John Nicholas, Paddy Morrissey & Tom Morrissey working very hard to keep the scores level. Edward Doyle made a fantastic save on 20 minutes, diving full length to push the ball around the post after a deflection had wrong-footed him. Jack Cleary & Cian O'Brien worked tirelessly in the middle of he park for Aisling and the wide players, Conor Linehan and especially Brian Donovan saw lots of ball but were up against a very solid home defence. Half-time was welcomed by both sides on a very warm day in a match that was great to watch but energy-sapping to play in. Ten minures into the second half, Aisling Annacotty took the lead when Stuart Hoares ball into the box was headed on by John Nicholas and Brian Donovan flicked it past the keeper. The goal gave the visitors a massive lift and Ronan Murphy & Thomas Holmes up front continued to cause plenty of problems but Kllarney stood firm. Five minutes later they were level when John Fenton-Daly ran on to a ball over the top and, despite being closely challenged by Tom Morrissey, drove an unstoppable shot to the roof of the net. It was game on and Killarney now enjoyed a period of dominance and might have made it two when Zaouil Hique broke through on goal but was brilliantly denied by the alert Edward Doyle. The match was now end-to-end and Ronan Murphy flashed an effort just over the bar after great work by Andy La-Touche Cosgrove and Brian Donovan. In the cruellest of twists Kilarney won it and booked their place in the semi-final when a corner in the last minute of injury time was brilliantly headed home by Liam Kearney. This was a fantastic game and it would be unfair to pick out individuals in the Aisling side as all 12 who played were outstanding and all 17 members of this national cup squad can look back with pride on their excellent effort in this years competition.

U13 Premier League: Mungret 1 Aisling Annacotty 1
13th March 2010
Aisling Annacotty & Mungret played out an entertaining 1-all draw in this top of the table clash last saturday. As usual with these sides the game was tight and competitive with some nice football being played but few clear cut chances. All the goal scoring action came in the final 5 minutes of the first half with Mungret taking the lead when a defensive header fell nicely for Byron who drilled it in the bottom corner giving Edward Doyle no chance. Aisling hit back immediately and Jack Cleary's ball across the box picked out Tom Morrissey who finished cooly. Earlier two magnificient free kicks from Conor Linehan brought fine saves from the Mungret keeper and Brian Donovan blazed over after good work by Cian O'Brien. Mungret had their spells of dominance too particularly in the second half when Edward Doyle was in sparkling form to deny Jack Harrington and Ronan Coughlan. Both sides were worth a point but,in truth, it is probably Ballynanty the other title challengers who are happiest with the result. Best for Aisling on the day were Kieran Long, Conor Linehan and Ronan Murphy.

U13 Troy Cup: Aisling Annacotty 2 - Fairview 1
6th March 2010
Aisling Annacotty had a narrow but deserved win over local rivals Fairview to book a place in the last 8 of the national cup. The game was tense & scrappy especially in the first half as both sides showed signs of nerves and found it difficult to cope with a congested midfield. Jack Cleary was one of the few in action to show some composure & purpose in the early stages and his cross-field ball to Brian Donovan set the winger away after 20 minutes to win a corner for Aisling. Conor Linehan swung in a great ball and Stuart Hoare was on hand to prod home the opening goal. Both sides were better in the second period but it was the home team that increased their advantage after 10 minutes. Tom Morrissey was excellent at left back all day and his storming run down the left set up Ronan Murphy who knocked it into the path of Thomas Holmes who produced a clinical finish to the bottom corner. Fairview knew they had to really have a go now and the game became very open and stretched. Ronan Murphy broke free again and might have shot himself but squared for Brian Donovan whose rasping shot went just over. Faieview battled back with great heart but Edward Doyle in the Aisling net was not beaten until almost the last kick of the game when a lovely ball over the top was brilliantly finished to the net. Best for Aisling were Tom Morrissey, Jack Cleary and ConorLinehan while special mention should also go to substitutes Thomas Holmes Tom Ryan and Daniel Brazil wh all made a difference when introduced.

Under 13 National Cup
Aisling Annacotty 2 Kilmallock 2 (Aisling won 3-2 on pens)
Two Limerick sides will meet in the last 16 of the Troy cup after Aisling Annacotty edged past Kilmallock on penalties to set up a mouth-watering clash with Fairview Rangers. This was a fiercely contested and tight game played at a ferocious pace throughout and while the standard of football was not always brilliant the excitement levels never dropped. Aisling fell behind to a penalty after a harsh looking decision against John Nicholas but the finish from the visiting striker was emphatic. Aisling responded well and Cian O'Brien set Tom Morrissey away down the left and his ball across the box was only just scrambled away before Ronan Murphy could finish. Aisling fell two behind just before the break somewhat against the run of play when a long ball over the top caught the home defence napping and the finish to the bottom corner gave Edward Doyle no chance. Andy La-Touche Cosgrove came on for the second half and his pace made an immediate difference. The home side were dominant and created four great chances in 15 minutes, scoring from two of them. The first came when Jack Cleary robbed the ball on the left side of the area and played a great ball into Brian Donovan who squeezed it in to the bottom corner. The goal really lifted the home side and when Conor Linehan swang in a corner moments later Ronan Murphy produced a fantastic leap and header that went just over. Aisling continued to press and Stuart Hoare won a free kick 25 yards out after some great work from Paddy Morrissey and Brian Donovan. Conor Linehan stepped up and crashed a great strike off the bar that bounced down on the line and was scrambled away for another corner. Conor swung it over again and Stuart Hoare was on hand to blast it to the roof of the net. Aisling were rampant now but, to their great credit, Kilmallock got back into it and struck the woodwork themselvs after a quick break down the left. Both sides gave everything in the extra time but penalties were needed to decide it and Jack Cleary, Stuart Hoare and Conor Linehan scored for Aisling while Edward Doyle made a fantastic save to give the hme side the victory. Best for Aisling in a great team effort were Conor Lenihan, Andy La-Touche Cosgrove and Stuart Hoare.
