Mungret Regional Blitz 29th May 2010
This Saturday morning saw us hosted by Mungret Regional who once again did a terrific job organising everything. Played on a good surface, the overall standard of football was excellent.
Our opening match against Corbally(2) saw us struggle in the early stages to get any control over the ball against a team who passed it around nicely. A good through ball and calm finish saw Corbally take the lead. Gradually Aisling began to get back into it with Sean Clifford, Caolan Madden and Jason Aylward combining very effectively. Right at the end of the first half, Aisling had a very close call with Ronan Kiely making a good save and Joe Hoare and Mark Griffin scrambling the ball off the line.
Aisling improved in the second half and when Jason broke up and attack in midfield, the ball was swept to Jack Considine and onto Tom Marsden who finished well from a tight angle on the left. No more goals followed and two very even teams deservedly finished 1-1.
Our second match was against the hosts Mungret Regional (3). This time Aisling started very brightly with Mark Griffin and Ronan Kiely to the fore. After five minutes, a nice ball from Joe found Tom on the right wing. Tom beat a couple of players before playing a nice ball in to Jack who finished coolly to the corner of the net. Aisling were really going well with Joe and Sean solid in defence and Jason, Tom and Caolan continuing to dominate in midfield. Into the second half and Aisling went further ahead through an excellent left foot finished to the bottom corner from Caolan. Towards the end, Aisling made it 3-0. Sean Clifford broke up a dangerous attack, fed Jason and a lovely through ball saw a great finish from Jack who coolly lobbed the ball over the onrushing Mungret keeper. This proved to the final score and gave Aisling a well deserved win.
Our third match was against an All Star line up of Mungret, Corbally and Aisling players, ably managed by Colin from Aisling and Stephen from Mungret. After a dodgy start, Aisling came into the game with a well taken goal from John Toland following a nice through ball from Ronan Kiely. The All Stars responded well and deserved their equaliser but Aisling went in front soon after when Ben O’Brien-Christie won a great challenge in our half, gave the ball to Gavin Hayes who took a touch, then fed Joe Hoare who calmly slotted the ball to the corner of the net. Early in the second half Aisling made it 3-1 through Jack Considine before a brace of goals from the excellent Tom Marsden saw Aisling run out 5-1 winners, which really didn’t reflect the overall match and was cruel on the All Stars.

Geraldines Blitz 15th May 2010
This Saturday morning saw us up against 3 very competitive teams on a very good surface in Garryowen
Our first match saw us up against the hosts Geraldines who started well and took an early lead. Aisling were struggling and excellent defending from Sam Hanrahan and Joe Hoare kept Aisling just one behind. However the Aisling midfield with Charlie Cox and Caolan Madden to the fore began to get to grips with the match and we equalised with a well taken goal from Taylor Gleeson who reacted fastest after the ball had struck the Geraldines post. Soon afterwards, Jack Considine finished neatly to the corner after and pin point through ball from Joe. Half time saw us 2-1 ahead. However Geraldines scored the equaliser just after half time and the contest was very even. 2 late Geraldines goals saw them run out 4-2 winners at the end of a very good game. Conor Deegan and Colin Foley were to the fore for Aisling in the second half.
Our second match saw us up against Regional United 1 for the second time this season with the first match ending in a draw. This time however Aisling started the brighter with Gavin Hayes driving us on in midfield and Ben O’Brien-Christie outstanding in defence. Aisling took the lead following a nice ball from Sam out to Jack on the right wing, a good run and cross saw Taylor finish neatly to the corner of the net. The second half again saw Aisling start brightly and soon Jack had doubled the lead with a fine run and powerful finish to the back of the net. This however proved to be the spur for a very determined Regional side who took control of the game from then on. Some fine defending from Conor and Joe and great goalkeeping from Gavin who had gone into goals kept Aisling’s goal intact. With 3 minutes left however, Regional got a well deserved goal but Aisling just managed to hold out for a 2-1 win. Again, Caolan Madden, Charlie Cox, Sam Hanrahan in midfield and Colin Foley up front were excellent for Aisling.
Our final match saw us up against an excellent Coonagh side who goalie was excellent throughout the match. Aisling started well enough with Caolan and Taylor lively up front, however a break away goal from Coonagh saw them take the lead despite the best efforts of Ben who had an excellent match in goals. Shortly afterwards, a fine free kick from Jack was cleared off the Coonagh line. Soon after, another powerful shot from Jack was brilliantly touched onto the bar by the Coonagh goalie. Despite the best efforts of Gavin and Sam in defence, Coonagh doubled their lead with a well taken goal to give them a 2-0 half time lead. A few minutes into the second half and Coonagh scored again. To their credit, Aisling didn’t drop their heads and after a great tackle, Charlie fed Sam who moved the ball on to Taylor who with his back to goal tried an audacious flick with the outside of his right foot. To confirm it wasn’t to be our day, the ball struck the foot of the post and was cleared away. Aisling kept going but Coonagh were strong throughout and held on for a 3-0 win which was a bit harsh on the Aisling lads

Annacotty Blitz 1st May 2010
Aisling Annacotty put in a solid workmanlike performance today winning two matches and narrowly losing the third.
The Lisnagry team were a mature bunch of lads but Aisling were quicker in the break away and put them away 2:1. It was a tight contest though and the Aisling defence held out well with Mark Griffin, Alan Crehan and Sean Glifford rarely failing to clear their lines.
Jack Considine broke the ice first with a fine bit of jinking to put the ball past the brave Lisnagry goalkeeper, Conor Bourke.
Caolan Madden scored a fine second goal, assisted by the fleet footed Tom Marsden with Gavin Hayes holding a solid presence in midfield.
Ronan Kiely tended the goal well but beaten by a fine top net drive by the Lisnagry attack.
Aisling won the second match against a fine younger Shannon team. Aisling had the majority of posession through Tom Marsden and Gavin Hayes working the wings well and supplying good ball to Caolan and Jack. It was a midfielders game with both Tom and Gavin coming forward to score well taken goals.
Ronan Kiely was busier in goal with some fine long range strikes from the Shannon attackers, letting in one tough -to-save effort.
Alan Crehan and Sean Clifford swept up the Shannon attackers well.
The defence was the difference with the sturdy Mark Griffin clearing well everytime. 2:1 Aisling.
In their last match, a tiring Aisling side battled to a 3:3 game against a strong Mungret side.
Aisling conceded a forth 5 minutes before time but almost clenched a draw with a final series of corners in the dying moments when even Ronan came off his line to try pierce the Mungret defence.
Scores by Jack Considine, Caolan Madden and Tom Marsden were hard come by a very solid Mungret defence.
Jack had two further decent chances after a series of mazy runs through the Mungret attack but the goalie stood his ground.
Sean Griffin made a fine contribution in midfield with solid defence by Mark Griffin and Alan Crehan.
Gavin Hayes battled hard with Caolan Madden and Tom Marsden in midfield but Mungret pipped them in this very entertaining contest. Mungret 4:3.

Regional Blitz 17th April 2010
Game 1 saw us start strongly against a very good Granville(1) side. This was a real game of two halves with Aisling having the best of it in the first half. Some lovely passing in midfield by Tom Marsden, Jack Considine and Gavin Hayes saw Aisling force a series of corners and from one of these, a nice lay-off from Jason Aylward saw the excellent Caolan Madden fire home to give Aisling the lead. The second half was Granville’s turn to force a string of corners but largely through excellent defending from Ben O’Brien-Christie and Joe Hoare, Aisling were able to hang on for a 1-0 victory.
The second match against Roxboro began very evenly with Roxboro making life difficult for the Aisling defence and Ronan Kiely in goal had to make a string of saves. Gradually though Aisling began to get on top. 2 goals each from Caolan Madden, Gavin Hayes and Jack Considine (one a great long range free kick), and one each from Jason Aylward and Tom Marsden saw Aisling win 8-1. Roxboro did have the consolation of an excellent curling long range free kick for their goal.
The third match against Regional(1) proved to be a very competitive affair indeed. Regional came out of the blocks very strongly and for most of the first match had Aisling pressed back in their own third of the field. Regional scored first with a nicely taken goal and only some great goalkeeping and heroic defending from Joe Hoare, Ben O’Brien-Christie and Gavin Hayes kept the score down. A shuffled formation brought Aisling back into the game late in the second half with Jack Considine and Jason Aylward both going close. A huge amount of determination and commitment from a tiring Aisling team saw us dominate the second half but some magnificent defending from Regional no 16 kept them in it. On the stroke of full time however, Aisling man-of-the-blitz Jason Aylward went forward down the right and chipped the goalie for an well deserved equalising goal.
Great credit is due to all the Aisling players who battled through 3 games despite some of them being injured.

Mungret Blitz 3rd April 2010
On a lovely bright Saturday morning in Mungret, Aisling Annacotty (2) Under 8s began their league campaign against some very competitive teams
In the first match against Mungret Regional (2), Aisling got off to a bit of a slow start playing into a strong wind. Despite some nice passing and lots of effort, 2 well taken goals from Mungret left Aisling 2-0 down at half time. However with Michael Webster and Joe Hoare very solid at the back and Jason Aylward, Mark Griffin and Tom Marsden getting on top in midfield, Aisling came back with 2 goals from Jack Considine up front, one a penalty and the other a lovely curling shot to the corner. The game finished 2-2 for a well deserved draw.
The second match against Caherdavin Celtic (1) again saw Aisling off to a slow start with Caherdavin taking an early lead. This proved to be the only goal of a very hard fought game. Aisling again played very well in the second half but couldn’t get past the Caherdavin goalkeeper who had a great game. Very strong showings from Caolan Madden, Ben O’Brien-Christie, John Toland, Sean Clifford and Ronan Kiely in goals kept Aisling in it all the way to the final whistle.
The final game against Shannon Town (1) saw Aisling get off to a very good start with the strong wind at their backs making it difficult for Shannon to clear their lines. Excellent play from Sean Clifford, Caolan Madden and Jason Aylward in midfield kept Aisling on the front foot throughout the first half. Well taken goals from Sean Clifford and Jack Considine saw Aisling go in 2-0 up at half-time. The second half saw Shannon come out all guns blazing and they were soon back in the game after an excellent shot to the roof of the net. The turning point in the game came soon after with Shannon awarded a penalty. A fantastic double save from Aisling man-of-the-blitz, Ronan Kiely kept Aisling in front and they soon got back into the game with Tom Marsden, Michael Webster, Joe Hoare and John Toland very prominent. A second goal from the lively Jack Considine eventually saw Aisling run out 3-1 winners.

All three games were sporting contests, with all players giving their best effort.
The first game was a closely contested game with Corbally. After giving it an excellent all round effort, Aisling eventually lost this game 1-0. Conor Deegan and Mark Kelly did some great defensive work and Daire Ryan looked lively on the break, however, Corbally got the only goal of the game with an unstoppable shot. After this John Moloney and Taylor Gleeson went close to equalising, but their efforts went narrowly wide. Colin Foley and Charlie Cox were excellent in defence, denying Corbally's breaks, and keeping Aisling in the game.
In the second game, against Regional United, things were finely balanced until Sam Hanrahan threaded through a ball to James Flannery who finished cooly to the bottom corner of the net to give Aisling the lead. Shortly after Cian Smith broke down the right wing, feeding Padraig Harnett with a great pass, who scored a super goal with a curling shot from distance. Taylor Gleeson topped off a fine display, roaming from defence to attack, with a well taken goal. Niall McGrath was busy in midfield with a gritty performance, cutting off the Regional attacks at source. With the last move of the game, Mark Harty stroked the ball into the net. Final score 4-0.
In the final game, Aisling were off to a flyer with early goals from Mark Harty after a long dribble, and Sam Hanrahan with a fine shot. Star rovers, to their credit kept playing when things were going against them and soon broke through to score. Mark Harty grabbed a third in the second half to leave the final score 3-1.
Every player is to be congratulated for their teamwork, skills and spirit. This was a level above the performances seen by these players before.
