Guidelines for PRO's
1. Compiling a report for submission to a Newspaper or Radio Station -
Keep it short and to the point - three to four paragraphs is sufficient. The two most important facts are the scoreline and the scorers. Indicate approximately when the goals were scored. Highlight a player who had a particularly outstanding game.
Include a list of the team and substitutes used. Very good Public Relations Officers will also include a list of the opposing team and the substitutes used. That would not be necessary however if every club P.R.O. did his job. Reports should be about the football match or matters of newsworthy interest about the club.
2. How to send your report to the media.
The most suitable ways of sending reports to the local media is by Fax or E-mail. The reports should be sent through on a Sunday night or very early on Monday norning to ensure publication in the local newspapers.
As far as MWR is concerned, reports should be faxed or rang through immediately after the match on Sunday. In the case of Saturday or midweek matches, reports should be faxed through to MWR in time for the Sports News the following morning - approx 8.50 am.
Castlebar Community Radio (CRC fm)have sports shows on Saturday and Sunday from 12.30 to 2.00 pm (these are subject to change).
Reports should be typed out in clear block letters. Always place the name of the PRO at bottom of report. with accompanying mobile contact number. This facilitates a reporter seeking further information or clarification. The name of the reporter to which the fax is being sent should be placed at the top of the report in Big Block Letters. Clubs with e-mail facilities should e-mail their reports to the media.
MWR - Sunday Sports evening show is on between 8.00 and 8.30pm.
